With the advancements and accessibility of technology, the availability of trainings and education comes to the fingertips of anyone with an internet connection. A number of excellent benefits can be found within using online tools. Online training can bring convenience and consistency to a mass of individuals.
Not only convenient to the users’ schedules, online trainings increase confidence in individuals by giving them relevant, timely information. Courses can also improve retention of knowledge and skills allowing users to review a company’s latest processes and content. Self-assessment becomes part of the experience too as individuals have the opportunity to identify unknown weaknesses and strengths.
Recognizing the benefits of online training, Destination Imagination (DI) began three years ago using an online learning management system to supplement training for its 40,000 plus volunteers. DI continues updating and adding trainings to its LMS training catalogs to meet the needs of its wide range of volunteer roles. Volunteers who give their time and expertise to the Destination Imagination Challenge Experience can find consistent, up-to-date information regardless of where they live geographically or when they wish it complete trainings.
When our staff member, Kris Beisel, was presented with the challenge to take the lead in bringing online training to the DI volunteer community, she began imagining how to take a model typically used with for-profit company trainings and shaping it into a tool for a non-profit, volunteer world. Kris was recently recognized for her work in shaping the DI online training courses and format. She has been named one of Training magazine’s 2019 Emerging Training Leaders based on her outstanding work with the Destination Imagination trainings for volunteers posted on our learning management system. With this awards program, Training magazine recognizes the outstanding talents, accomplishments, and leadership of training professionals who have been in the training industry for 2 to 10 years.
“It’s not very often that training and workforce development professionals are appropriately honored for the remarkable commitment, hard work, leadership, and passion they provide every day of the year. We’re glad to be able to take this opportunity to do so,” writes Lorri Freifeld, Editor-in-Chief, Training magazine.
As a 2019 Emerging Training Leader, Kris will be featured in the January/February 2020 issue of Training magazine and on their website. Kris will be presented with the award at the Emerging Training Leaders Conference & Expo in February 2020.

If you are a Team Manager, you will need to register as the Team Manager for your team in the Resource Area before accessing our online training system. If you are a Challenge Master, Appraiser, or other DI volunteer, talk with your Affiliate Director and ask to be added to the training system. After you are registered, you will receive an invitation to join our Adobe Captivate Prime Learning Management System.
